Ryan Lee’s 2008 Fitness Industry Predictions…

2008 is going to be an exciting year for the fitness industry.

Here are my “semi” world famous predictions for the industry for 2008…

1. As people are getting busier, you are going to see more brief workouts, what I am officially naming “MINI WORKOUTS”

2. There will be less “one on one” personal training and more clubs going to small group and semi-private training.

3. There will be a greater shift away from aerobic training to more intense high intensity interval training.

4. Fitness bootcamps are going to continue to explode in popularity. And more “30 minute” circuit facilities will go out of business. Many are closing at an alarming rate as owners are realizing the financial numbers don’t make sense.

5. More and more people are coming to the Internet for their health and fitness information. Sales of fitness programming and information products online will continue to grow.

6. Kettlebells are going to continue their momentum and become more and more part of the fitness mainstream.

What do you think is going to happen in 2008?

Make your predictions below:

  • I predict kids fitness will grow rapidly, more and more fitness centers will start gearing more toward kids and more fitness centers for kids will start to open. That is my dream someday to open a fitness center for youth.

  • I think were going to see a explosion of Fitness Lifestyle Coaching. As clients are inclined to dig deeper into the whys of fitness and the mind and body connection ,Lifecoaching will become more prevelent. What is Fitness lifecoaching?

Fitness Professionals encounter clients who don't stay committed on their own. Lets face it most clients have 20 + years of negative conditioning from growing up and society. Parents who feed their children sugary sweet cereals that often grow up to be obese adults with very poor eating choices. Personal trainers often encounter clients who can't seem to keep a food log or do any assigned exercise on their own. They continue to make unhealthy food choices, often citing a busy, stressful week as the reason. Ultimately, your goal is to move the client towards self-responsibility. That's where lifestyle coaching plays a key role.

  • Thanks guys.

I feel great knowing that I'm on the right track.
  • Don't forget nutrition!!

With new research trickling down about fat burning foods and nutrient timing I think you will start to see even more of a shift towards higher protein and fibrous starches for meals as the main stream media starts to pick up this research.
  • 1) Boot Camps are definitely going to continue to surge in popularity. People are looking for more fun and social support and affordability.

    2) I also believe that this is the year that entrepreneurial personal trainers begin to treat their business like a business and not a hobby. They are going to put systems in place and automate as much as possible.

    3) Yes, I will always love sandwiches, Zach!

My prediction for 2008 is that Ryan Lee will continue to provide excellent fitness information and links to other worthwhile sources but will only sell half his potential book sales because he is addressing a world wide audience as if it was a domestic United States of American audience. I wish him and his family well and express my sincere gratitude for his efforts. I might even buy his book, once I have sorted out how to do so in pounds sterling without having to pay twice it's dollar price.
  • Ryan,

As always, right on... Zach you as well are right on.

What does this mean.. My perdiction... Resistance Band Training.... RBT will pick up some serious momentum. Its the anytime, Anywhere and anybody training tool can do it all.

Ryan have a great holiday and make sure you extend that to your family

the training of young athletes - ages 8 or so through high school is exploding.

More so, I NEVER imagined the demand for middle school athletes parents wanting trainers.

Parents wants to give their kids the edge, and, unfortunately, want to have success through their kids so we are seeing ULTRA committed parents.

Grasso saw this LONG ago, and man, he is right on!

Also, Jim Labadie will continue to love sandwiches over foods such as steak, burgers and fish.

  • Hello Ryan, I agree 110%! People seem to have so much to do but little time to do it in. That's why 2008 will be the year of the short, sharp session.
I predict CIRCUIT TRAINING will make a big come back into the mainstream exercise arena. As people will relise that they can get great health benefits from a high intensity workout and get more bang for there buck!I believe the MINI WORKOUT will be all the rage for 2008, so much so that I have designed the MINI WORKOUT exercise cards. Check them out at www.circuits4life.com Keep up all the great work Ryan, and thanks for the Millionare workout book. All the best to you and your family for 2008! Peter (MD)Circuits4life

All around the World the workplace is going to play an increasingly important role in improving the health and fitness of adults.
  • I think that all 6 predictions are spot on and quite likely.

I also think that marathons are going to continue to grow in popularity. Despite many of them failing and shutting down, there will be even more new marathons and young marathons making a go of it. Resources are going to be strained as races try to support more runners than they really are able to.

Hopefully there won't be another Chicago, though, and it will be limited in scope to something like ING Georgia's inaugural year.
