  • If you have competition, you have a business. If you don't you have a hobby.

But at the same time, look at Howie: He just launched the first mobile marketing product I have heard of and kicked StomerNet's butt to market. I have tons of the same information in my members site as they are both building theirs around. I just never thought the marketing focus would be on the mobile since I spend so much time at my desktop.

Great points you made there Ryan, many times we are just too close to the flame.....

  • Excellent advice Ryan!
  • Thanks for the tip of letting go of what not working. You rock . A great lesson to learn early on in the internet business You can not force a thing to happen if the universe doesn't want you to complete it. Stay in the stream and flow of the river and be swept along with the current instead of trying to fight the current by trying to paddle up stream.

Great event, Ryan! Thanks so much...we learned a lot and met some great people! Sorry to hear about your magazine. You did a fabulous job putting it together and David did an amazing job editing! OK..off to take some action!

    Hi Ryan,
First of all, thanks a million for the fantastic event. We had a great time, met some wonderful people and learned a lot. So sorry to hear about your magazine...you did a fabulous job on the first issue and your editor, David, did an amazing job! You have some talented people working there! Hope to start implementing some ideas very soon! Dorothea Carney
  • Great video. I have ran offline businesses for years and marketing is the same way. You try a marketing source and no matter how "cool" you think it is, if it doesn't work, you have to move on. Otherwise you spend all your money on marketing that doesn't work. Projects are the same way. Go into the project with a 100% success attitude and the mentality of if it doesn't work, I will walk away happy knowing I have learned something new.

    Ryan,

Excellent info. Keep the great tips coming, as they're always
welcomed, reviewed and most of the time, acted upon!

  • Ryan,

As usual, you hit the nail on the head. Starting a business, project, product is like birthing a baby and it's really hard for people to look at it objectively. It's really good to be reminded that it's not about you, it's about the customer...
Thanks, again, for your keen insight.

  • Yes Ryan,

Most entrepreneurs get tooo attactched to their ideas. I'm guilty. Like you said, cut your losses fast and get onto something that "they want".
  • Bravo... It's nice to hear someone tell it like it really is. Don't get too attached to something that is not working well enough. If you can't fix it... MOVE ON and let it go. We've all heard it before, but really following the advice is a gold nugget.

    Great Tip!
  • Well I'm attached to the yearly Summit and will be sad if you don't have another next year. I will drive 3.5 hours to come and help!

I will cry if there is none next year.

    Ryan,
Those are important ideas: knowing what the market wants. We do that with courses at our college as much as possible. For those in the "retail" fitness club world, people want to belong to a health club or studio. No matter the state of the economy, those interested in fitness see their health club membership as essential to maintaining a positive outlook. Ask, "what's the problem I'm solving?"

Great show Ryan in CT. I drove in from Cleveland and it was incredible. In fact the 8 hour drive back was a great opportunity to mentally review what I heard. As to your comment today, it is appropriate to where I am in my online business. I need to make some major changes to increase conversion and retention. No more time to wait around. Thanks again - Bill Cody

Thanks Bill - I'm glad you enjoyed the Summit.

Well, this conversation actually DID take place and I DO believe that is one of Ryan's great strengths. I've seen Ryan hit HOME RUNS out of the ball park and I've seen him have some stinkers. But his home runs have out weighed his stinkers by a long shot.

Ryan is a tester and an action taker.

Did you guys know that Ryan pulled his Dotcom Lifestyle magazine together in less that 2 months. Big magazine companies sometimes take over a year to develop a magazine!

So another one of Ryan's strengths is that he is SWIFT!

He moves very quickly on ideas. So if he's going to fail, he fails quickly and moves on. I so admire him for that. Sometimes I'm as slow as an ox to get something out the door. Ryan is a "boom, badda bang" type of guy. He gets things done fast.

If it's a winner, he runs with it. If it's not, he dumps it and moves on to find the next winner. (By the way, Warren Buffet doesn't always pick winners either).

Way to go Ryan. I can't wait to see your next big winner!

    All the best.

Thanks so much for your words of encouragement and support David. I'm glad to have you as a friend in my life.

  • True True. Many an entrepreneur has died a slow painful death due to this problem. There is something to be said for sticking to your passion but it has to be based on reason and measured results of some kind too. This is great advice that must be acted upon by many viewers here.

Listen to Robert De Niro echo Ryan's word at the 30 sec mark LOL

    Nice DeNiro reference Kevin!
  • Steve
Dot Com Mag was an example of this?
  • Ya DC Lifestyle was an awesome magazine (will probably resurface some day) but apparently it was a huge drain on resources, time and a lot of stress dealing with printers etc.

Long story short the ROI was low and the stress was intense. (as far as I can ascertain )
  • glenmunro
If printers are the problem with dotcom lifestyle, then why not offer an e-zine?
I was looking forward to your mag. Just a thought

    Glen
  • ryanlee
The printing was only one part of the nightmare. Having the pressure of a new issue each month with content, editing and layout is a lot of work. And I'd rather focus 100% on taking care of my Inner Circle members instead.

    Amen brotha!!

I made this mistake of selling 'prevention' early on and it didn't pan out.

My buddy Michael Cheney says you have to sell people "Choclate Covered Vegetables" he said "nobody wants Veggies even though they know they need them. You have to meet them where they are at with the choclate and THEN give them what they need."

I thought that was an appropriate thing to share!

    Hope it helps,

  • Excellent tips, Ryan! It really is about the market wants, NOT about what we THINK the market wants. Sometimes hard to make that separation, but vital to our business to release the junk to make way for the gold!
